Software Solution Offers a Winning Strategy
Will the new technology in Alex’s practice guarantee a slam dunk?
“Dancing last night, hoops today — you’re having an active week!” observed Alex’s wife. He stripped off his damp shirt and tossed it into the laundry hamper.
“You’re right,” he agreed. “I think better when I’m moving.”
“So have you gotten your documentation issues figured out?”
“You mean the possible documentation issues I might have?” Alex laughed. He still wasn’t sure that his colleagues at the practice were going to have the kinds of problems Laura was describing — but he also didn’t want to wait around and find out. “I talked with the coach from the new software company we’re working with, and she had a sensible solution.”
“I think so. There’s an internal auditing process built into the software which will help us identify gaps between the current documentation and the level of specificity we need.”
“I don’t get that,” Laura objected. “How can it tell?”
Alex laughed. “You know how you said you teach 4-year-olds about entropy?”
“Sure. We use toy cars to show how a body in motion stays in motion and vice versa.”
“Do you think there might be some things about entropy that they don’t fully understand?”
Laura raised her eyebrows. “I guess we’ve left a few things for them to learn in elementary and high school… and college.”
“Okay, so I don’t totally know all the differences between where our documentation is right now and where it has to be. But I’m confident that once I can show that to the team, in a data-driven way that doesn’t sound like literary criticism, they’ll be eager to bring their documentation up to snuff.”
“So you’ll be able to show them where they are — point A — and where they want to be — point B — so they can recognize the steps they need to take to get their documentation ready.”
“Exactly,” Alex said triumphantly.
“You sound pretty proud of yourself,” Laura teased.
“If you had seen me on the court…” Alex threw out his arms and marched toward the shower. He was feeling confident about the ICD-10 changeover as well as his prowess on the basketball court.
